PSA (prostate-specific antigen) is a glycoprotein that is primarily produced by the prostate (prostate gland in men). Prostate carcinoma is the most common malignant
tumor in men over the age of 45. If diagnosed early, the patient has the best chance of recovery. The classic examination of the prostate by palpation (digital rectal palpation) alone is not an early detection examination. It is supplemented by the determination of the PSA value. The PSA value is the most
sensitive parameter in the diagnosis of prostate
carcinoma. It is used for the early detection of prostate tumors as part of annual prostate cancer screening and to
assess the course and success of treatment.
